Entering Addresses

The input field below allows you to type an address and find a match. For the purposes of this visualization, you must type a comma and begin to type Niagara Falls to find a match. This is how Google configured this technology.

No Address Match?

Google knows only active addresses. If it does not return a matching address as you type, then it is not a place to them. Please check your spelling and/or typing if you're in doubt.

Future Plans

Considering the fates of places over 80 years, a secondary effort will add a feature that allows review of places erased by Father Time, general mayhem, or urban renewal.

Demographics

People make a business, a community, and a nation. Their talents and outputs promote vibrancy, propel progress, and provide charity. Absent their contributions, businesses, communitites, and nations have a limited lifespan and impact. This book's explanation of events starts with the characterization of the population. These characteristics have numerous dimensions. However, chief among the measurements are housing, age, income, education, race, and population. They are presented in various visualizations below as levels over time. The contents of the book analyze whether they are symptoms, trends, or causes.

Enter a street address in the pattern below to display demographic information. Then click on the Show Me button.

The results characterize the demographic impacts of economics.

Housing

The operations of a city are funded through taxes. A major portion of the taxes are raised on property; property like the address in the map above. Beginning in 1930, this visualization displays the value of the building at the address indicated. The value is expressed in three inflation-adjusted ways--forward from 1930, backward from 2015, and the reported current value each decade. This shows the values on which property taxes were levied and, once paid, the contribution to the city's vitality.
